Costa Cálida - Aeropuerto en Corvera

The Murcia Region is currently planning the construction of a new airport located in Corvera, 20 minutes from the city of Murcia and only 15 minutes from the Mar Menor.

This project will provide the Region with a modern national and international transportation infrastructure to help cope with tourist and commercial development, while satisfying both internal and external demands. The good climate that the Region of Murcia enjoys all year round results in a growing demand for travellers who want to visit. Also, unlike other areas of the Mediterranean, Murcia has not yet become overcrowded making it even more attractive especially for the foreign visitor. In addition, the domestic market, although less transcendent, also represents a growing segment.

The proposed location (Corvera) ensures highway and railway connections with the main national social-economic centres (Madrid, Alicante and Almeria) as well as the regional (Port of Cartagena and the new Integrated Merchandise Centre) while contributing to the development of the Fuente Alamo technological centre.

Why a new airport in Murcia?

The project for a new Airport in Corvera is the result of the hard work of the Community of Murcia and their desire to reach a high competitive level.

As part of the globalization and deregulation of air transportation, it is a proven fact that the economic development of a community is linked largely to the availability of infrastructures, including an airport with adequate services. Thus, main objective of this new airport in Corvera is to ensure that the community remains competitive in the area of air transportation, thereby promoting regional development in its various sectors.

The launch of this new airport in Murcia will bring significant benefits to the citizens of the Region, while fostering the development of its various sectors:

• Tourist Sector: the new airport will serve both the needs of the north coast (La Manga-Mar Menor) and those from the south coast (Aquilas and Mazarron).
• Industrial/Business Sector: the new airport will allow the Region of Murcia to become efficiently integrated in the transportation networks, a key factor for positioning industrial and service activities.
• Agricultural and Fishing Sector: the new airport will open the possibilities for new horizons and markets for regional production.
• At the same time, the airport will create development opportunities for the immediate surrounding areas.
